Why look daft tapping myself on the head?

Why do I have to look so stupid?

A great philosopher once said:

“If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.”

Its only natural

If you think about natural bodily reactions when we get stressed, tapping is very closely related

We will rub our eyes, across our foreheads, chin, rub our hands together,

Tapping is just channeling and focusing natural instincts to produce deliberate positive lasting results

New ideas always reviled

There is NOTHING in our lives or the lives and training of our doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists’ training that explains to us why tapping on a couple of acupressure points on your head might help you overcome any problem.

All new ideas receive some negative press to start with, when the wright brothers first dreamed of flying everyone thought they would die, It was thought that people would die on the first trains, because humans had never traveled that fast before

The man who ‘invented’ washing surgeons hands in order to prevent the spread infections died lonely in a cell of a lunatic asylum – the laughing stock of the medical world for coming up with such a ridiculous idea. The establishment so utterly terrified to admit he might be right, for fear that they will be vilified for doing the wrong thing up until that point.

This concept is human nature and unfortunately continues to this day, EFT will not be accepted fully by the establishment until it is too late for some…….

First surgeons were crazy?

The first known surgery, thought to be trepanation (drilling holes in the skull thought to heal epileptic seizures, migraines, and mental disorders) has been found from Mesolithic times and dates back to approximately 12000 BC. Can you imagine………..caveman turns to his neighbour, Ug has a headache, lets drill a hole in his skull and see if it helps………….

ECT Electroconvulsive Therapy has been used for over 75 years. It is one of the most controversial medical treatments ever to have been used. It involves putting electricity through someones brain in order to induce an epileptic fit, because after having a fit, people have been known to be a lot happier.

At first glance these ideas seem completely bonkas, and like they should be outlawed, and you are worried about a bit of tapping looking daft??

It can’t hurt

What do you have to lose?

When carrying out randomized control studies, researchers will always factor in a part to show adverse effects (from drugs or whatever is being tested). Through all studies, EFT has proved to have absolutely NO adverse effects.

Acupuncture looks stupid

Acupuncture is a 5000 year old ancient Chinese medical treatment, which is now very widely accepted to be very effective for many many conditions, employing the same principals EFT aims to be as or more effective as acupuncture, without looking anywhere near as ridiculous!!

You have to tap to make it work

The way I see it, you are tapping to make a physical change in your bodies chemistry

Technically we are tapping to de-potentiate our negative neuro-pathways

Our bodies run on electricity.

We know that our nervous system and muscular structure is powered by electricity, we are even capable of generating enough electricity to give ourselves or someone else a shock.

Although it is not precisely known how EFT /Tapping works there have been some very intelligent and well accepted theories put forwards as to how it works.

It is widely accepted that there an invisible energy running through the body. This can even be pictured using Kirlian photography

http://www.inspiringhealth.net/services/kirlian-photography

This invisible energy is (most commonly) known as Qi (from Chinese – it has other names in other Eastern countries and cultures)

Theories include that a traumatic event can cause a disruption in this flow of energy, and that tapping repairs the disruption.

My personal favourite theory is that the Qi running through the body actually carries an electrical charge to the amygdala / limbic system de-potentiating it and negating the negative impact it is having on the body and mind. A charge that is created in a piezoelectric fashion by the physical act of tapping on the correct point in the flow of the meridian system (Piezoelectric is generated by when applying pressure to quartz a small electrical charge is created)

Experiments have been performed where the participants were instructed to tap – but in different places on the body – which were found not to be as effective

Experiments have been performed where there has been no tapping done – just the talking and they were nowhere near as effective.

I deeply love and accept myself

You need to speak out

Speaking out loud and saying the words “Even though…….I deeply love and accept myself” (why would I do this) Link to that page) also seems very foreign at first but the importance of accepting the way we feel far outweighs any embarrassment we might feel whilst saying it.

So long story short, if you want to feel better – tap yourself, and don’t worry about it……

If you are still uncomfortable, instead of tapping, you can gently press the points, or massage them, and if that is still uncomfortable, try imagining yourself tapping them.
